SUMMARY:"Forward Together" Community of Practice Event - "Find Out and Have Your Say"
DESCRIPTION:The Forward Together project would like to invite parents and carers of individuals with severe or profound learning disabilities* living in Manchester or Salford to a “Community of Practice” (CoP) event where you can have a chance to: \n\nMeet other families in the same boat\nFind information about local and national support for your family (from local CAMHS teams\, carer support groups\, community learning disability teams and more)\nShare your experiences and views\nHave cake\, coffee\, a chat and the chance to win an Amazon voucher worth £100!\n\nWe will be having an engagement stand at this event\, where you can find out about what we do as a Parent Carer Forum\, upcoming parent workshops and family events that we have\, and opportunities for you to get involved as a parent/carer. \nManchester’s Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) Local Offer team will be there as well – speak with them if you want to find out about how to access information and support across Education\, Health and Social Care for families of deaf\, disabled and neurodivergent children and young people in the city of Manchester. \nFor Salford families\, we heard that Salford Parent Carer Forum will be there too! \nNo need to book; just drop in! \n* Forward Together’s focus is people with severe/ profound learning disabilities whose behaviours we might find challenging or people with similar diagnoses such as Global Developmental Delay (GDD). Please contact the project team if you are unsure whether you can come or if you want to learn more about this event. \n \nAbout Forward Together\nForward Together is a 3-year project taking place across Kent and Medway\, The Black Country\, and Manchester & Salford. Building on previous learning from regional work in the Getting It Right project\, it aims to connect family carers and professionals through regional networks and forums to identify local issues\, share support\, and improve collaborative practices. Supported by the Challenging Behaviour Foundation (CBF) and the Challenging Behaviour National Strategy Group (CBNSG)\, these networks help address local concerns\, coordinate activities across regions\, and contribute to a national community focused on supporting people with severe learning disabilities whose behaviours we may find challenging. \nThe Forward Together project has developed a multi-stakeholder regional network for each area\, and this will involve facilitating two action focused meetings per year\, sharing information\, delivering existing CBF workshops\, and feeding into the national work through the Challenging Behaviour National Strategy Group (CB-NSG). \nThis event on the 18th of November is the second of the Community of Practice (CoP) events for Manchester and Salford\, with the first one having happened on the 13th of June 2025.
