SUMMARY:Autism and Sensory Differences Post-Diagnostic Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is led by a Specialist Occupational Therapist in the Social Communication Pathway and will provide the opportunity to: \n\nDevelop your understanding of sensory systems\, e.g.\, touch\, smell\, taste\, movement and introduce less familiar systems such as proprioception and interception.\nConsider how autistic individuals may experience sensory differences.\nThink about how sensory differences can affect everyday activities.\nExplore strategies that may be considered when supporting an autistic individual.\nHear about the experiences of other families and share your own experiences if you wish.\n\nBiscuits\, tea and coffee will be provided. However\, lunch isn’t provided so please make sure to bring your own food for the lunch break. \nIf you need an interpreter to access the session\, please email mft.scppostdiagnosticworkshops@nhs.net with at least a week’s notice before the session. SUMMARY:Transition to Secondary School Workshop for Parents/Carers
DESCRIPTION:Moving from primary school to high school is an important life event and can be a positive and exciting time. Yet some children require additional support. Children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) often find transition more challenging than their peers. \nThis workshop is for parents/carers of children in Years 4\, 5 and 6. It is based on research into what makes for a successful transition. It will cover: \n\nSome practical approaches that schools can use to support a smooth transition\nHow parents / carers can prepare and support their children for the move to high school\n\nThere will be plenty of time for questions and discussion. \nThe workshop is FREE to attend for parents and carers of children with SEND who live in Manchester or go to a Manchester-based school.
