This event has passed.

We have now opened this event to all families of autistic and neurodivergent (ND) children and young people.

If you are ND yourself or you have an autistic/neurodivergent child or young person in the family, we’d love to enjoy the movie with you on this day! 🙂

Plus: If you want to further raise acceptance and improve understanding of autism in Manchester, please join our Autism Acceptance Week activity and send us something that expresses what autism personally means to you. All submissions give you an entry to a raffle for Amazon vouchers + your work will be published and acknowledged on our website and social media.

Join us and other parents/carers of autistic and neurodivergent children and young people for a FREE screening of “Life, Animated!

The film screening is exclusively for parents/carers of autistic and neurodivergent children and young people who go to one of Manchester’s Autism in Schools (AiS) schools:

  • Co-op Academy Manchester
  • Didsbury High School
  • Levenshulme High School
  • Manchester Communication Academy
  • Southern Cross School
  • St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic High School
  • Trinity Church of England High School

“Life, Animated” is “a coming-of-age story about a boy and his family who overcame great challenges by turning Disney animated movies into a language to express love, loss, kinship and brotherhood.” It was based on the story of Owen Suskind, an autistic boy who learned how to understand the world and communicate with it through Disney characters.

We recently ran a survey asking people to vote for an autism-themed film that we will show to parents and carers in celebration of World Autism Acceptance Week. This was the film that was chosen based on the poll. Click this and this and this to read some reviews of this film made by actual autistics. You may also want to read this review written by the co-founder of Thinking Person’s Guide to Autism (TPGA), and this review from the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
