Learn about Jewish festivals, including the Sabbath and Passover, through exploration of stories, rituals and food.

This interactive two-hour workshop includes:

• Discovery of Sabbath traditions, after which students get to plait and bake their own challah bread in our learning kitchen – Click this to learn more about the ingredients.

• Interactive exploration of the Passover story and traditions, including sampling of foods from the Seder plate

• Reflective time on our museum gallery, where students can further engage with Passover themes such as journeys and freedom

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • You are responsible for your own children’s safety throughout the session.
  • Because this event involves baking bread and trying food samples, please let us know in advance if you or your child has any allergies or dietary restrictions.
  • This event is FREE to families of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) who live in the city of Manchester.

INGREDIENTS:

  • All ingredients used in the activities for the event are vegetarian. The main ingredients are: sugar, flour (which contains gluten), eggs, yeast, salt, vegetable oil, raisins, horseradish (which contains milk, egg and mustard), grape juice, cinnamon, honey, apple. PLEASE LET US KNOW OF ANY ALLERGIES WHEN BOOKING.
  • If we are notified in advance, the museum can create an egg-free challah dough for children who cannot have eggs. PLEASE INFORM US AT LEAST ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE, as this option is not possible without advance notice.
  • For children who cannot have gluten, the museum can provide air dry clay so that they can still participate with the activity. PLEASE INFORM US AT LEAST ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE if this is needed.

MUSEUM ACCESSIBILITY INFO:

The building includes step-free access to the entrance via a ramp, a lift to the first floor, level access throughout the ground floor, and accessible gender neutral toilets on both the ground floor and first floor.

There is a hearing induction loop in the atrium, gallery, learning studio and kitchen, and the ground floor of the synagogue.
