For the past one-plus years, we have been part of a multidisciplinary project group working to develop a person-centred profile document for children and young people that will be universally recognised across Manchester. The group has agreed to call these profiles “About Me”, with an option to add more details in a page that will be called “More About Me”.
Parents tell us that having to tell their story over and over can be emotionally draining or upsetting, and we feel that one great way to help with this would be to have a consistent person-centred profile available and requested by professionals in all settings. While some of us are familiar with and use “one-page profiles”, these are not necessarily recognised across different Education, Health or Social Care services. Once in place, the About Me (AM) and More About Me (MAM) will provide valuable information to enable settings to tailor their approach for different individuals, leading to a better, more effective experience for children and young people.
The project group has so far developed a draft About Me template, guidance for completing an About Me profile and a standards document which supports this. We are currently at the point of piloting the profiles in different settings, including schools and colleges.
We are now looking for parents and carers who would like to volunteer to complete About Me profiles for their children or young people. We would like parents/carers to feedback on what has worked well and what can be improved, and we will later share short surveys to ask for your feedback.
If this is something that you are interested in getting involved with, please kindly fill the form below and we will send you a copy of the draft AM/MAM to test. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
