HAVEN stands for “Hearing Accepting Valuing Every Neurotype” and is the result of a collaboration between various teams in the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), One Education, and the University of Manchester.
It is first going to be delivered via the Autism in Schools project in Manchester and training has already been provided to three of the participating schools: Levenshulme High School, Manchester Communication Academy, and Southern Cross school.
We would now like to invite parents and carers to a workshop where the project team will discuss the theory behind their work with HAVEN. This workshop will be held on Wednesday, 23rd of November 2022, 10am to 12 noon, at St. Thomas Centre in Ardwick (M12 6FZ).
Booking is free to parents of children and young people who go to the above-mentioned schools.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
Please confirm your attendance with your school by Thursday, 17th of November, and let them/us know if you have any dietary and/or access requirements.
What is HAVEN?
HAVEN is a new way of supporting autistic and neurodivergent pupils in mainstream high schools.
This project has been a collaboration between the Community Speech and Language Therapy team, the CAMHS Speech and Language Therapy Team, One Education educational psychologists, and the University of Manchester’s Speech and Language Therapy department and Psychology and Mental Health department.
Our aim is to create environments within mainstream schools that can support autistic young people to form connections with other autistic and neurodivergent young people.
The project team are very keen to share their ideas with parents, in order for parents to support their autistic young person in the home environment.
