Join us on Friday, 11 October 2024, for a coffee morning at Martenscroft Nursery and Sure Start Centre in Hulme.
It’s an opportunity to meet and chat with fellow parents & carers of children and young people with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) in a relaxed and friendly setting.
We will also be visited on this day by the Early Years Communication and Language Team, who would like to explain their new Early Years communication offer and get parent/carer views* on what they are doing. They are also interested in what support/advice parents wish we’ve had when our children were under 2 years old. Click this to learn more about the EY Communication and Language team.
We expect our guest to come around 11am. Before then/ after their session, you can talk to us about the work that we do at Manchester Parent Carer Forum and find out about information & events relevant to families.
About Our Guests
The Early Years Communication and Language Team is a team of Speech and Language Therapists and Language Development Workers who specialise in supporting the communication and language development of children in the Early Years (age 0-5). They provide targeted services to support children before they require specialist speech and language therapy intervention. They aim to identify children’s language levels and create supportive early language environments in order to increase school readiness and decrease the risk of negative outcomes later in life.
This teams runs the ECHO (Early Communication Home-learning Offer) pathway for children who may be showing signs of a social communication difficulties. It is a family-centered communication support package delivered through face-to-face home visits.
* Note from the service: “We don’t have any influence on other services or older age ranges, though we would pass on anything parents share if we can. We are also experts on communication for preschool children and wouldn’t be able to answer questions about other areas of development or older ages.”
