The Science and Industry Museum (SIM) is currently upgrading their Power Hall, which is due to reopen in Summer 2025.

A much beloved industrial heritage gallery, SIM’s Power Hall houses one of the UK’s largest collections of working steam engines, with a majority of them built locally in Greater Manchester. Other than conserving and future-proofing the building itself, the museum is also re-imagining its internal gallery. When the building reopens, visitors will be able to explore engineering innovations through working machines and the stories of the people who developed and worked with them.

To help make the building and its associated activities more accessible to families of people with additional needs, we would like to hold a few focus group sessions so that SIM can listen to your feedback, concerns and suggestions. We are looking for a few families of deaf, disabled and neurodivergent children and young people to join these engagement activities.

The focus group will involve attending four sessions, including:

  • Two online discussions (parents/carers only)
  • Two in-person meetups with the family

Participants will be paid for their time but you will need to commit to attending all four sessions.

Please answer the short application form linked below if you want to get involved.
