Manchester City Council’s Short-Breaks programme is available to families of a disabled child or young person aged up to 18 living in Manchester. It involves universal activities, the SEND Community Offer, and a smaller range of additional and specialist support (offered to disabled children and young people with the most complex needs).

Short Breaks activities can range from an activity which lasts an hour or two to a few days away from home. Some activities are offered at weekends, evenings or during school holidays. These activities provide a positive experience for the disabled child or young person, giving them an opportunity to have fun and try new skills.

A Short Break also gives parents and carers a break from their caring role. Taking a short break can give parents and carers the time to undertake training, enjoy leisure activities, carry out day-to-day tasks, or spend time with other children.

You can learn more about Short Breaks and the Specialist Resource Team at the Local Offer website or by reading the city council’s Short Breaks Service Statement.
