Today is Father’s Day and, to celebrate, we would like to highlight SEND Dads Society, a male social club for parents/carers of children and young people with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) in Greater Manchester (GM).

Here’s a message from Chris, who founded this group that meets monthly in Heaton Park Gold Club:

I set up SEND Dads Society because as a father of an autistic 13 year old lad I didn’t feel there was outlet for men to discuss how they really feel. Just a safe space where there’s no judgement and men can offload and also share successes, challenges and everything else that comes with having a kid with SEND. I wanted dads to have a place to go especially in their darkest moments when they need support.

I also set up SEND Dads Society to raise money for sensory equipment for Manchester schools. It helps me individually to feel like I’m making a difference and I wanted to give other men an opportunity to help their community as well.

Their next meet-up is this coming Thursday, 20th of June, 7:30 to 9pm.
