To celebrate World Autism Acceptance Week*, we will be holding a FREE film screening session on Tuesday, 16 April, exclusively for parents/carers of autistic and neurodivergent children and young people who go to one of Manchester’s Autism in Schools (AiS) schools**.

We would like your help in choosing the film that we will be showing at the session. Please vote for a movie by answering a short, 1-minute poll, which will close at 9pm on Friday, the 5th of April.

* World Autism Acceptance Week 2024 happens between the 2nd to the 8th of April. However, we will be running this film screening as a belated celebration to allow parents and carers to view the film while their children are at school.

** There are seven schools currently signed up for AiS in Manchester: Co-op Academy Manchester, Didsbury High School, Levenshulme High School, Manchester Communication Academy, Southern Cross School, St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic High School, and Trinity Church of England High School

Here are the synopses for each film that are included in the poll:

  • The Accountant : Autistic accountant Christian Wolff works for various illegal companies and manipulates their financial records. When the FBI learns about his truth, he takes up a legitimate client to bluff the officers.
  • Life, Animated : After watching animated Disney movies, a young autistic man finds a common language with his parents, and sees his communication skills develop.
  • My Name is Khan : Rizwan, a man diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, marries Mandira. When unfortunate events unfold after the twin tower attacks, he embarks on a journey to change people’s perception of his community.
  • Ocean Heaven : Aquarium worker Wang, diagnosed with terminal liver cancer realizes he must try and equip Dafu, his 21-year-old autistic son to live without him.
  • The Reason I Jump : Based on the book by Naoki Higashida, this immersive film explores the experiences of non-speaking autistic people around the world.
  • Temple Grandin : This film is a biopic of Temple Grandin, an autistic woman who has become one of the top scientists in the humane livestock handling industry.
