Educational Psychologists from One Education are running a free workshop for Manchester parents/carers whose children experience Anxiety-Based School Avoidance (ABSA), which may also be known in other areas as emotionally based school avoidance or school refusal.
These sessions will cover:
- What is anxiety-based school non-attendance? Why does it happen?
- Who is at risk? How can we spot the risks early on?
- What can be done to reduce anxiety in children / young people?
- Helping parents/carers to speak to schools on their child’s behalf and explain to school how their child is feeling
- The “Assess-Plan-Do-Review” process
- What works to help children, young people and families?
- How different services can help

About the Trainers:
Audrey Johnson and Abigail Sterne are both Educational Psychologists with One Education and former teachers.
Both work in primary & secondary schools and further education colleges across Manchester.
Audrey’s areas of specialism include: Early Years, Looked-after and Accommodated Children, Loss and Bereavement.
Abigail’s include Autism and Post-16 education.
